Roma's Back Door in Owosso

Roma's Back Door owner John Orin is co-owner with his wife,Janice K. Orin. Roma's Back Door is celebrating its ten -year anniversary of ownership and a name change by the Orin family.

"Basically, we have kept the same people, the menu and the same business structure," said Orin. "We added some new pasta dishes and Italian specialties."

Orin, who grew up in Flint, currently lives in Corunna traces his roots to the Roma's establishment in Flint. He went to work there in 1964 as a dishwasher. Orin bought the business,1972 which he continues to own and operate under the title of Roma Pizzeria. Roma's Flint is located at G5227 N. Saginaw Street.


Orin has brought the same work ethic and attitude of professionalism to Roma's Back Door, located at 200 E. Comstock street within the bordering triangle of Owosso Cinemas, JC Penney and the Comstock Inn & Conference Center, that he established many years ago in Flint.

"We want the customer to leave happy and satisfied. It's as simple as that," declared Orin. "We'll do whatever it takes to accomplish that goal."

Roma's Back Door Owosso specialties range from the traditional chicken, ribs, mashed potatoes and gravy, to deep-dish Chicago pizza made from hand-tossed dough, to in-house soups and sauces, "fish and chips to die for" and a bread which blends olive oil, cheese and tomato slices into a pizza-type serving.

The Owosso restaurant, built where the old Evergreen Dairy once stood, has kept expanding over the years to the point of now including a dining area that seats 85-90, a meeting/banquet/party room for up to 50 people, a casual lounge/TV area, booths and tables for two with elevated chairs.Some people drive 45 minutes to have Roma's Back Door pizza in Owosso.
